Swing Arm Retracting Grip Holder for Wheel Chairs
This mechanical, spring-activated device attaches to the back cane of a wheelchair and allows a child to pull things toward them when they want them, and have the things automatically swing away after use.
This device was designed and constructed for a little girl named Sarah who has difficulty using her arms due to Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, and it is easily adapted for many purposes and needs. This device has the ability to provide assistance with autonomous behaviors for children with upper extremity differences and consists of a Promaster Mini Clamp attach to the wheelchair, a portion of a cymbal stand from drum hardware, a modified desk lamp, EazyHold silicone handle, a Joby flexible mini-tripod repurposed as a hand/holding device and other miscellaneous nuts and bolts.
Above you can see the device attached to Sarah’s wheelchair.
