SoundPlay at the DCCA Interactive Sound Installation




On Sunday, February 21, 2010 I transformed the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art (now the Delaware Contemporary) into an playful, interactive sound experience for kids and their families. Families were invited to play with sound recording, playback, and effects through various interactive devices located throughout the DCCA. This collaborative and playful experience was intended to inspire curiosity about sound and sound technology as a form of art.



This temporary, interactive sound installation is based on the technology I previously developed as an installation titled “Echo Location Intercoms”. For the DCCA event, I developed this technology and concept further, intended for interaction with children and families. The project involved installing four “Intercom Units” into steel columns that are part of the architecture of the DCCA.
